The PAN card is a laminated card which holds an unique Permanent account number,it is issued by income tax department of india. PAN card is required for doing various financial transactions above certain edge, it is mainly introduced to prevent tax evasion. Card is also used as an identity poof.
Users who wish to apply for pan card need to fill form no 49, for applying PAN card you may use following options.
1. Through TIN Facilitation Centres Cum PAN Centres
2. Through official tax information network website.
Users who wish to apply through option 1 need to go nearest TIN Facilitation Centres, there you will get all related forms and you have to give stamp size photo, address and identity proof.

Note: Here we assumed you are applying for individual PAN card and you are a Indian citizen who is residing in india.
Got to above link, At first you will see set of instructions, without skipping anything read all information, there it will ask you to choose any one of following application form.
Step1: If you are going to applying for individual use then just select form named “Form 49 A”
Step2: Now a fresh window will opens on your browser which contains important instructions, guidelines and details about what are things you should avoid while filling form. In this page a link for “form 49 A application” will be shown, just click over that.
Step 3: Again you will find a list of important instructions, at the bottom of page choose category of applicant as “individual” and hit enter.
Step 4: first question in the application is “If you are a Defence Personnel select the appropriate category” Don’t choose “Army, Navy and Air force” option unless you are a defense personnel, option which you need to select here is “other individuals”
Next doubtable question of first time users is what I have to give for following questions
1. Area Code
2. AO Type
3. Range Code
4. AO Number
It is just an easy step, there select click here option in “For Non International Taxation AO details “, it opens a new window, At the end of the page it have “A-Z” alphabetic letters, If your city is Chennai just select ”c”, After selecting the alphabet it will shows the list of city names which are starting with that alphabet, there click on your city.
On next page press ctrl + F and enter your area pin code number without any space, select option button provided in table where your area pin code is highlighted, finally move to bottom of page and click submit, it automatically fills above four questions in pan card application form.
Other questions are very common, carefully fill all required details (mentioned in * symbol) completely after reading all the questions, If you have any doubts you may raise it here.
Final section is choosing the payment mode, following options are available
1. Demand Draft
2. Cheque number
3. Credit Card or Debit Card
4. Net Banking
Here we prefer option 3 and 4, because it save your time and you can pay the fees just sitting in front of your computer. However Choose your handy mode and provide the details and click submit button.
If you chosen option 3 and 4, on next page you need to enter details of your credit/debit card or net banking username and password, After the billing process is over “Acknowledgement for request of new PAN card” is generated, click print option in that page and Be sure that printer is attached with your PC.
Step 5: Finally send the printed form with duly attached documents, photographs and signature at appropriate place to the address given in instruction section of acknowledgement page. You need to forward these documents within 15 days after online registration.
